Background

At the end of summer, I try to incorporate peaches into a lot of my recipes! (Peaches, I’ll miss you until next summer…). The more I’ve baked with peaches, the more I’ve realized that I love the woodsy, rich element that thyme brings to those recipes…with these thoughts in mind, I set about to concoct a new variation of one of my go-to favorite drinks: the Old Fashioned.

Adapted from A Healthy Life for Me.

Step-by-step

  1. Combine simple syrup, bitters, and bourbon (if you’re fancy and have a martini shaker…awesome! If you do this is a jar with a lid and use a strainer…awesome!)
  2. Add the juice of half of your peach – using a strainer, squeeze the peach over your syrup/bourbon mixture (really press the peach half against your strainer – you can get a lot of juice!)
  3. Add leaves from fresh thyme (roll them in your fingers as you drop them in to release some of their oils).
  4. Shake it up and strain into cocktail glasses with ice (if you’re a traditionalist, one large cube is the way to go for an Old Fashioned).
  5. Garnish with the other sprig of thyme, twist of orange, and cherry.
