Background

This is one of my FAVORITE holiday recipes! While my mom and I have been making this for Christmas for as long as I can remember, over the years, we’ve each added or changed a few items. The initial recipe (which called for shredded coconut and maraschino cherries, among other things) actually looked a lot like a chocolate pizza; now, even though the recipe has changed, the name has stuck! I hope you enjoy!

Step-by-step

  1. Prep your pretzel pieces: To get one cup of pretzel pieces, I measure out 1 ½ cups of pretzel sticks into a large plastic bag. I then use a meat pounder or rolling pin to break the pretzel sticks into smaller pieces (about ¼” long). When transferring to a measuring cup, leave any pretzel ‘dust’ in the bag.
  2. Measure out your mix-ins into your prep bowl: 2 cups marshmallows, 1 cup rice cereal, and 1 cup of pretzel stick pieces. Set aside.
  3. Chop and measure your white chocolate: using a butcher knife, cut white chocolate into chunks. Leave 2 ounces of white chocolate aside and cut the remaining 14 ounces of white chocolate into smaller pieces (think chocolate-chip size or thereabouts). Transfer your 14 ounces of chopped white chocolate into your large saucepan. Now, chop your other 2 ounces of  white chocolate and place these chunks into a microwave-safe bowl. Set aside.
  4. Prep your cookie sheet with a sheet of wax paper.
  5. Add your semisweet chocolate chips to your large saucepan. Turn heat to medium-low and stir slowly and constantly until all of your chocolate is melted.
  6. Once chocolate is smooth, remove from heat and add your mix-ins. Using a large rubber spatula, fold your mix-ins into the chocolate carefully (we don’t want to smoosh our rice cereal or pretzel pieces).
  7. Once everything is folded in, transfer to your wax paper covered cookie sheet. Use your spatula to scoop out all of the chocolate from your saucepan and to spread the mixture in an even layer – work to get this layer about 1 in deep.
  8. Using your soft sprinkles, decorate your first layer.
  1. Now, add 1 tsp of vegetable oil to your remaining white chocolate. Microwave it for 30 seconds, then stir. Do this process again – your chocolate should now be melted.
  2. Drizzle your white chocolate onto your pizza (you may use a piping bag for more control if you’d like – or you can simply using a spoon).
  3. Sprinkle with crystal sugar sprinkles.
  4. Place cookie sheet in fridge to harden (at least 20 minutes).
  5. When ready, use your butcher knife to cut your chocolate pizza into chunks.

Serve and Enjoy

Other Options

You can make this ahead as it lasts well in the fridge – especially if you don’t cut it! I’ve had this last well for over a week (that’s why I use it in my Christmas Goodie Giftboxes each year)!

Once cut, you can store this in an airtight container as well. Again, I’ve had it last for a week (but by then it’s all been eaten)!

Tips, Tricks, and Tweaks

I have made this recipe pretty much every Christmas, so I’ve tried my share of melting chocolate….that being said, all melting chocolate, in my opinion, is not created equal! My absolute favorite melting chocolate is from Stater Brothers and is called Candiquik – it’s delicious, it melts well, and it’s affordable!
